Day 2 updates!

Here are updates from today!  WCUMC doesn't have any youth in groups 1 and 2, and staying at different churches from them makes it difficult to track down updates!  I'll work on getting them if I can! :-)

Team 3:

Today, we went back to the same house as yesterday and worked more on the inside rather than the outside. We went in and noticed that there were some wet spots on the walls and some puddles on the floors. We etched the wet spots of the walls and plastered some of the cracks and holes. We put powder on the floor to clear up all the water and realized shortly after that the floor wasn’t a dirt floor but rather concrete. We painted all the walls first coat and even got a second coat done. We felt very accomplished with all that we completed in our 2 days.

Team 4:

Today we headed back to the trailer home we started day 1 at, and worked to finish more of the tasks we started on. We started off splitting up, with some of us going inside to work on putting up the dry wall and writing measurements and cutting them to fit in certain areas of the walls. Then others came in and fixed up the walls and spackled. Going on outside much more of the group continued to work on removing nails from the old deck boards to try and salvage them! We made much more progress today and were happy to get to work over there!

Team 5:

Today we went to three different homes to help with Yard work. At the first stop, we finished up what we started yesterday. While there Bob, asked us to move some garbage around. Next house we drove of the main road out in to the woods, When we met Cindy, she has a very nice yard and landscape, her issue thet she needed us for was weeding an steep embankment and to get a tree off her building. You can tell Cindy and her husband cared about their property. For lunch we ate overlooking the mountains. LAst house we met David. David was a ROCK N ROLL MAN! He told us about how he loved to single and play music. David also loved this yard. He is unable to do it now as he has arthritis. David was a fun guy and enjoyed having us there.

Team 6:

Today we went to deep time where we drank coffee and learned the story of the place and the behind the scenes. We then went to 12 Baskets and had lunch with the less fortunate. Next we spread mulch at safe shelter and picked up trash around town.

Team 7:

Today, we went to the Covenant Community UMC, where we took apart wooden pallets and learned how to use power tools. We organized the wood into piles so it could be used to build a garden for the people living there.

Team 8:

First our group got off the bus and saw the sad sad scene of a homeless man sleeping in the parking lot. Then we went inside to Deep time and most of us got drinks, the most popular drink was caramel latte so that’s what most of us got.  it was delicious after we finished our drinks, Willy B introduced us to Mercy.  She told us her story and about the impact that they’ve made and how they accomplished it. Then we went over to safe shelter and we split up. Two of us organized a closet and the other group spread mulch in the playground and moved 77 wheel barrels full of mulch. After, we had lunch at 12 baskets with some people who were experiencing homelessness and once we were done with our lunch, we helped clean up. Then we went back to deep time and they taught us how to roast coffee beans and after we cooked the beans we got to keep a bag each.
